7 Miami Style Icons On What To Wear To Miami Art Week 2022
When it comes to Art Basel Miami Beach, this party-driven art week is fueled by parties. And what better way to show your artsy personality through fashion?
Miami locals are no stranger to Miami art week, which takes over the city every early December, coinciding with the main Art Basel fair, which showcases hundreds of art galleries, alongside other art fairs.
Here, the top local Miami style experts pipe in on what to wear, and their must-pack items for the week-long party.
Timur Tugberk, Art, Design and Fashion Publicist and Influencer at Designing the District, @timurdc
“The style moment of Miami Art Week this year is going to be eccentric, eclectic, electric – living and working in Miami fashion, I’ve witnessed some of our regional trends popping up around the world. You will see bold, logo embellished, haute maison designer brand street style. You will also witness street-style couture, as I call it, which is high fashion in more atypical for silhouettes, pieces, scale, and shapes in street-friendly, beautifully constructed, and more material-heavy formal casuals. Lastly, I believe both color and scale will be enormously present during this year’s Art Week.”
Must pack: “Always pack your most sophisticated, confidence-boosting, ready-for-the-camera activewear. We are a very fit-focused city, there is so much fitness available, and working out with us is quite the scene. You cannot pack enough statement pieces—we are a full vibe 365 days of the year here—we love peacocking, we love bold fashion, and we celebrate fabulous people. Lastly, don’t forget to pack that swimwear you’ve been dying to reveal, but didn’t feel it was appropriate for your local pool or beach—you can even wear certain swimwear here as a top!”
Get photographed: “Go big or go home—this week attracts the most unique, colorful, creative, innovative, friendly, and talented people from around the world to our already very creative city. This is a beloved festival where people come together to celebrate expressions of all types. Wear something that makes you feel stunning, outrageous, fabulous, unique, edgy, or beyond your comfort zone. If you follow that motto, you will 100% get noticed and photographed.”

“I think this art week is going to be very vibrant, opulent, and futuristic too. Vibrant metallic colors, neon items, and maybe even some glow-in-the-dark, hand-painted outerwear. I can also see a matrix trend being very prominent on the streets, leather, futuristic glasses, statement buckles, and hardware accessories. And of course, the glamour is not going anywhere, lots and lots of crystals, glitter, sequin, and anything that shines will take over the street of Miami both day and night.”
Must pack: “For sure, a portable phone charger, you’ll be taking a lot of pictures and videos you will not want your phone out of battery and a portable light would not be a bad idea. Some cool sunglasses, your best swimwear, it is Miami after all and does not forget party wear. Oh and lots of energy you never know where the night will take you.”
Get photographed: “What will get you noticed is authenticity, fearlessness, and boldness in the way you dress. What I mean by that is being authentic in what you wear, not trying to copy all the trends and looks of the season but truly making your own style shine. Not being afraid to stand out and be different, being bold in your looks, and carrying them with confidence. Is not just about what you wear, but also how you wear it and how you carry yourself that will get you noticed. Experiment with new accessories, new colors, new shapes, and new styles, its art week after all go as crazy and have fun.”

“The style tone will be chic street city style, from oversized men suiting in shiny fabrics with exposed corseted tops under to supermini embellished dressing. It’s all about everything stretchy. Wrinkle-free clothing will be a highlight, from mini and fitted cutouts, as well as romantic florals to floor length dresses. An amazing, arty accessory will get you photographed.”

“For Art Basel, it’s all about taking it to the next level. It’s safe to say, people and their personal styles are admired as much as the art exhibited. Take a risk you wouldn’t usually take and you won’t regret it. Bold colors are in and will make you stand out in the crowd.
Must pack: “During Basel, Miami is truly the city that doesn’t sleep! With different types of events happening at all hours, it’s important to stay comfortable and pack outfits that transition from day to night. Pack short-sleeve lapel collar shirts with breathable fabrics as the weather is between 70 and 80 degrees in December. Complete your look with a stylish hat that matches your outfit and have a light blazer on hand if you want to dress it up at night. It’s all about adapting to last-minute plans since the city is buzzing, you never know where you will end up. Don’t forget to pack your favorite swim trunks because nothing beats a dip in the ocean during this Miami heat.”
Get photographed: “I love sunglasses that make a statement! Sunglasses with a pop of color always catch my attention. Color-blocking your wardrobe is also a must if you’re looking to take pictures next to some cool murals in Wynwood. My advice is to go bold when choosing your color palette.”
Patrick Van Negri, Content Creator and Fashion Influencer, @patrickvannegri
“This year’s Miami Art Week will be unique and glamorous, as it always is when art and fashion meet in December in Miami. Loads of gloss, shine, and sexy Gatsby-like style with a mix of contemporary Miami Vice and 80’s disco nostalgia.”
Must pack: “Get unique pieces, thrift, collaborate with artists and designers—do not be afraid to reach out to them with your ideas and vision—and most importantly. be yourself. That will get the attention and catch the photographer’s eye, and most likely get published in online publications and magazines.”
Get photographed: “Be bold and experiment because this is an opportunity to go all out since it is Miami Art Week. Be unconventional, daring, and confident, but do not overdo it because it will be obvious, and you will look desperate. It is indeed a thin line between the two, so when in doubt, always go classic and sensually minimalistic.”
Last tip: “Remember to pack a skinny external battery, a little cash, breath mints, and loads of patience. The secret is to be open-minded and not to overstress and overthink it. Have all your outfits ready for all the days in advance. Create a schedule with a balanced variety of exhibitions, fairs, shows, installations, events, and parties. The biggest secret? Enjoy it with good company and have fun.”

“Miami loves colors and patterns and I think we definitely will see many shades of lavender, the “it” color of the season. I create my own one-of-a-kind pieces so definitely items from my holiday collection: tulle tops, taffeta mini dresses, layering pieces, and silk sets. Also accessories, they are making such a difference. I love to style my looks with tulle stockings from my latest collection. Wear something with volume, unexpected combinations of colors, and mixing layers and textures. Go with the flow and enjoy the moment and don’t forget to have fun.”
Chelsea Roth, Fashion Designer at Gypsy Soul Designs and Curator, Creator of Sera Sera Social Club, @dalisdiaries
“Haute Havoc is going to be Miami Art Week 2022; it’s in the combination that matters, a totem revolution of maximalism by paring excessively loud items with randomly arranged prints, sequins, feathers, and exaggerated silhouettes. Let’s say: “Absolutely, fabulous.” Think of a multicolored sequin tuxedo paired with an oversized feather clutch, jeweled-out converse, and a pair of “don’t talk to me” sunglasses. Also try layered neon leopard prints, a tent-sized, low-bearing kimono that accentuates the bustline, a high-waist, tighter-than-tight pant, and a boss-sized pop-colored purse.”
Must pack: “Let’s be candid here. Miami is hot, with the humidity reaching ungodly heights. So, what’s necessary to keep you feeling fresh and fine? Try Amika dry shampoo, a small electric fan and blotting papers. Keep it chic with Hermès and don’t forget your favorite touch-up concealer.
The secret to having an enjoyable art week: “Create a schedule of all the must-do events with outfits in mind, hire a driver so you can drink champagne in the car, hake sure your outfits are pre-selected and appropriate for the audience and go with the flow—there will be traffic, long lines, and big crowds that can get you down – but remember it’s only art, we’re not saving lives here.”
