Alexa Chung Discusses Her A/W ’22 Barbour Collaboration Collection

Calling all Barbour and ALEXACHUNG fans, they’ve collaborated again on a line of outerwear that’ll sort you out for winter.

In the seventh installment of the Barbour by ALEXACHUNG collection, for the first time, Creative Director Alexa Chung has stepped out in front of the camera to show off the finery in a campaign shot at Marsden Rock on the North-East coastline—an ode to Barbour’s northern roots.

This line incorporates new design details in the form of teddy faux fur, sporran pockets and an exclusive tartan developed by Alexa that’s found inside the Blair Quilt and the Elizabeth Wax jackets. There are also thick quilted jackets and a ’60s-vibing black PVC coat that sits alongside the classic Barbour wax styles. Alexa talks all about Barbour Britishness and her latest line with the brand.

Felicity Carter: There’s an evolution of shapes and materials for every collection, tell us about the A/W 2022 line?

Alexa Chung: Some favorites of mine in this collection are the cropped jackets we made, like the Blair. I love how exaggerated the hems and collars are, so they have a swing to them. I was very happy to see that this silhouette also turned up in the latest Loewe show, so we were right on time!

FC: What did you want to get out of this collection creatively?

AC: Mmmm, I’m not sure if that’s how I approach projects necessarily – i.e., to quench a creative thirst. Actually, that’s a lie, it’s precisely the point of doing things, haha! This is an ongoing collaboration, and I know the product and brand history well at this point, so it was more a case of continuing to push our Union forward. I was focused on making these jackets warm for winter, so we studied the linings a lot.

FC: Which are the standout pieces of this collection to you and why?

AC: I thought I loved the double-breasted Fife; that’s the one I ordered. However, my sister just got the cropped green Blair, and now I’m jealous of that, but my entire house is a Barbour jacket, so I had to restrain myself.

FC: How does Barbour connect and complement your own style?

AC: It’s intrinsically part of me. I grew up with them; I plan to grow old with them. Their smell, their practicality, their Britishness. It’s all in me.

FC: Which has been the all-time favorite piece that you’ve designed with Barbour, and how do you style it up?

AC: The one I wear the most is, I think, called Glenda. It’s a summer coat with a white and black check collar; I wear it with everything. Its versatility is why it’s so great.
