How I Travel: Oleema Miller
As the co-founder, creative director, and designer behind luxury swim and ready-to-wear brand, Mikoh, Oleema Miller knows a thing or two about a proper jaunt. Alongside Mikoh’s other co-founder, Oleema’s sister Kalani Miller, Oleema grew grew up with the ocean in her backyard in the small beach town of San Clemente, CA., and, as a former competitive surfer, has been traveling the world since age 13.
Below, Miller shares her travel hit list. From the best shopping terminals to a little champagne at take-off, here’s how Oleema Miller travels.
Oleema Miller’s Travel Intel:
My go-to airline is: It depends on destination, but Delta, Air France, Virgin Atlantic do it best!
My favorite seat on the flight is: I’m a window girl forever and as far away from the galley as possible, love a good snooze on the plane.
My go-to in-flight beverage is: I’m all about hydration on board, so water is key, however a champagne at takeoff doesn’t hurt anybody!
My favorite airport/terminal is: Terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow Airport. The Chanel there is out of this world.
The second I get on a plane, I: Sanitize my seat and area from top to bottom.
My go-to travel uniform is: Head to toe black. I religiously wear black leggings on the plane, ALO and Lululemon make the best, most comfortable pairs. Also, a huge, oversized hoodie is a must.
My carry-on consists of: Way too many things. I love bringing my skincare on board, again moisturizing is key. I have a fear of being hungry during my flight, so a variety of snacks is always with me and a giant bottle of water.
The pieces I take EVERYWHERE are: A Mikoh bikini (the Catalina Top and Papara Bottom work in any occasion), a great pair of vintage denim, a cashmere sweater no matter what the temperature is at my destination, and a few easy dresses that transition from day to night.
My flying soundtrack is: I always pre-download meditations and even just have a soundtrack of crashing waves, it’s so soothing.
My favorite thing about flying is: Getting to the destination!
The worst part about flying is: Where to begin…
My one flying hack is: Bringing your own snacks and water. Also, comfy socks are a must!
The second I land, I: Go straight to the bathroom, wash my hand with hot water and lots of soap, and guzzle down water. Can you tell that I’m obsessed with hydration before, during, and after a flight?
As soon as I check into my hotel room, I: Strip off my airplane clothes and take a long, hot shower
My favorite hotel in the world is: It’s hard to pick just one, but if I could transport myself anywhere in the world right now it would be to the Le Taha’a in French Polynesia.
My favorite city in the world is: Paris (I recently got engaged there and now it is officially the city of love).
A concierge will know that I prefer: A room with lot of natural light and on a high floor.
My favorite hotel memory is: Le Sirenuse in Positano — I’ve never been so excited to stay at my dream hotel, it was even better than I could have imagined.
I conquer jetlag by: Not looking at what time it was at home and lots of hydration!
My biggest piece of travel advice is: To immerse yourself to wherever you’re going as much as possible and to stay as present in the moment.
