Online travel site Priceline.com wants to do more than “help you save big on your next hotel.”
In an announcement made by the Connecticut-based travel booking website this week, a new feature called Priceline Experiences will offer travelers exclusive access to book more than 80,000 activities, tours and attractions in over 100-countries around the world.
“Our goal has always been to help people experience the moments that matter,” CEO of Priceline Brett Keller said. “We know that for Priceline customers, those moments typically include activities while on vacation — and that these experiences are often the most memorable parts of their trips. With Priceline Experiences, we not only want to help travelers reach their destinations, but also to enjoy their time to the fullest, so we built a product to help them do just that,” Keller added.
Partnering with European based tour, activity and attraction company Musement to offer hyperlocal experiences and special access, from a zip-lining adventure in Niagara Falls and “skip the line” access to historical landmarks like Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France to an electric scooter tour through Central Park in New York City, there’s a little something for travelers of all stripes.
Other unique and behind-the-scenes experiences include private access to England’s Wembley Stadium, a donut tour in Nashville, a glass blowing demonstration in Murano, Italy and a glass bottom boat cruise in Key West, Florida, among thousands of others.
“Travelers now more than ever, seek unique experiences where they can fully immerse themselves in the local culture,” Keller said. “Coming out of the pandemic, we’re seeing that many local activity providers still have limited staff and ability to accommodate last minute bookings. Priceline Experiences enables customers to plan ahead and reserve popular activities, so they don’t miss out on the experiences that are most important to them.”
According to the travel website, the experience component was created as a direct result of consumer interest in destination-focused activities which has continued to grow steadily over the years. The travel aggregate said according to their research, 46% of consumers reporting they want more unique experiences when they travel, choosing active vacations that include multiple experiences.
To kick off the launch, Priceline will be hosting an Instagram sweepstakes and will give away $500 worth of Experiences every week throughout October.
