Looking to stay active on your next vacation, but not too active? Hit the pickleball courts.
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes. It’s America’s fastest growing sport, gaining nearly half a million new players since 2020 (as reported by the SFIA). It’s also increasing internationally, logging 4.8 million participants nationwide with over 60 countries joining the International Federation of Pickleball. There’s even rumor of adding it to the 2028 Olympics as a demonstration sport.
To cater to the sport’s blooming cadre of players, hotels have started adding pickleball courts as the latest guest amenity
“Since installing our four pickleball courts in October 2021, we’ve found that they have become one of our most popular amenities. The game is social and easy to pick up, so guests see it as a great way to get in some exercise while still spending time with friends and family” says Hyatt Regency Indian Wells General Manager Dan Johnson.
“Pickleball is slower paced and puts less strain on joints, so it’s also a great alternative to tennis for our multi-generational families” he adds.
