Malibu is the preferred enclave for billionaires. In the past two years, the tony Southern California town saw massive record-breaking listings and sales, from former Disney CEO Michael Eisner’s $225 million estate, to fashion mogul Serge Azria’s $177 million home sale last year. Famous past and current residents include billionaires Marc Andreessen, Kanye West, who purchased this $57.3 million Tadao Ando-designed oceanfront estate, billionaire vape mogul Riaz Valani, and many more.
If you’re seeking an impressive estate next to the likes of billionaire Jeff Bezos or Napster founder, Sean Parker, then perhaps this $23.995 million home will be suitable. Located on Selfridge Drive, this exceptional Malibu estate sprawls approximately 8,500 square feet and has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It’s listed by Branden and Rayni Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates, who list some of the most expensive homes in the greater Los Angeles region. This Little Dume Beach residence is the second ground-up Malibu home designed by interior design and architecture firm Standard Architecture, who also designed James Perse’s home and his first eight stores.
The current owners and sellers Greg and Mica Belzberg are designers who have been Malibu residents for more than 10 years. The duo first saw the 1.7-acre property and decided to build their third home here thanks to the flat area of Point Dume and the natural light. The single-story home is located in the Little Dume Beach neighborhood and features a series of white stucco structures. The result is an estate filled with natural light, open patios, intimate courtyards, and fluid rooms.
Amenities include a 50-foot lap pool; a second leisure pool located just off the kitchen and family room; and high-tech Crestron and Lutron automation systems. There’s also a guest house, outdoor kitchen, and pool cabana for the ultimate privacy and convenience. The residence was constructed with the finest craftsmanship and materials, like 10-feet- to 13-feet-high wood-clad ceilings and oak, cedar, travertine, plaster, and stucco finishes. It’s both calm and tranquil and was envisioned by the Belzbergs as the ultimate beachy oasis.
“[One of my favorite design details is] the floating 13-foot clear cedar ceiling above the living room that exposes treetop and mountain views in all four directions,” Greg Belzberg tells Forbes. “Also, the whimsical window detail along the bedroom hallway floor that brings in the blowing landscape grasses in the courtyard while walking down the hall to bed. We saw this implemented on an architectural tour in Brazil touring properties of Arthur Casas, Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan, and Paolo Jacobsen. I also love the scale of the home, the lot, and the proximity of the pools to the living space.”
The home is also located near the beach and offers the ideal Malibu lifestyle. With purchase of the home, buyers get a key to a private surf break where billionaire neighbors, like Bezos, surf. The private guard-gated home is in walking distance to the beach, and there’s even a surfboard storage area and large mudroom to the kitchen.
Little Dume Beach neighborhood is home to many restaurants and shops and is close to the best hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and surfing in California.
“Malibu has always been a hideaway for celebrities and professionals, so it’s no surprise to me that this area found more attention during a time when people were craving nature and open spaces,” says Mica Belzberg. “I appreciate architecture, design, and new ideas and enjoy the influx of well-traveled homeowners with opportunities to support leading artists. I think the juxtaposition of a sleepy town and glitz is an opportunity. I do feel many who have grown up here and newer owners have the same neighborhood goals: to keep the simplicity unchanged, while individual homes take on a new life with new families and stories to tell.”
The home is also co-listed by Chris Cortazzo of The Agency.
